Frequently Asked Questions

Experienced Funeral Directors?

Our proprietor was first involved with funerals in 1970, and has experienced all aspects of the profession since then. He has arranged and conducted hundreds of funerals during that time.

Are you independent or part of a group?

Very much an Independent concern, though we do call upon the assistance of other carefully chosen and established funeral directors from time to time.

Can we come to see our loved one in your Chapel of Rest?

Yes. Whilst the 'Total Simplicita' direct cremation choice specifically excludes that, the 'Simplicita Silver' arrangement and our other more traditional options allow for visitation.

Can I hold any form of service?

Certainly. With the exception of our 'Total Simplicita' arrangement, you may hold a simple service of your own at our Chapel of Rest. This accommodates a small family gathering. The "softer nature" and greater flexibility allowed by this approach is arguably no less reverent than any other traditional arrangement. It is, very much a matter of personal choice. Larger services may, of course, be held in the main crematorium chapel.

Can you provide full funeral facilities?

We are able to provide every professional facility you would expect from a modern funeral provider, from our facilities for care of the Deceased, through to the transfer of the ashes to any part of the world, if required. We can provide any choice of coffin or casket, embalming if required, repatriation of the Deceased from the UK or further afield. Also available, modern, immaculate hearse and limousines to suit the occasion.

How do you manage to charge so little for your services?

Simply by concentrating on the ever more popular choice of a simple arrangement. By providing exactly what is required to conduct a dignified simple departure, and by not transferring the financial burden of irrelevant vehicle fleets, and large staff and premises to the client via their account.

Our charges are proudly transparent, and available on request. Quotations are always given in writing prior to any commitment by you to engage our professional services.

Where is the body held prior to the cremation?

Our private mortuary facilities are situated within the grounds of Park Crematorium, Lytham. Westpark Chapel combines two non-denominational Rest Rooms, together with modern mortuary facilities. Beautifully sited in leafy parkland, with woodpeckers, foxes, and abundant wildlife quite literally on it's doorstep, this is a most fitting last resting place prior to cremation.

How soon are the ashes available?

This will vary depending upon the day of cremation, however it is usual for them to be available within 48 hours following the cremation. Ashes can be strewn in the crematorium grounds, or returned directly to the next of kin. Where local arrangements have been made to return the ashes to the family, we will return them in a dignified ashes container, urn or casket.

Can you provide a traditional service?

Yes. Our 'Simplicita Traditional' arrangement provides a base choice of options, to which any additional choice of coffin upgrade or mode of transportation may be added.

How do I make payment?

As the costs of our various arrangements are fixed, we are able to provide our invoice prior to the funeral. All charges must be received in full, and in advance of provision of our professional services. Payment may be made in cash, or by cheque, bankers' draft, bank transfer or credit or debit card. We do not charge any transaction fees.

Can you accept direct payment by the DWP (Social Fund)?

We regret that we can only accept instructions where the DWP is being requested to arrange settlement of the account in certain circumstances. This is because the DWP is currently unable to qualify or guarantee payment of funeral accounts, and indeed cannot "breach client confidentiality" by discussing any aspect of an individual claim with us, even with their client's express permission. We are only able to consider making arrangements where a full deposit is available.

Are you able to arrange a pre-paid plan for me?

Sorry, but not for our full range of options. With the exception of our Traditional arrangement, our charges are so finely tuned that we would have to almost double them to accommodate the costs of maintaining a legal pre-paid arrangement, thus cancelling out any financial benefit. This is because pre-payment attracts both tax and legal trust implications for the funeral director. Please contact us for details of our Traditional funeral plan.

If I decide to use Simplicita Cremations, who am I dealing with?

Simplicita Cremations is a trading style of Nick Gandon Funeral Services - a privately owned family firm. We are independent of any group or co-operative, and have no connection with any other funeral service with the specific exception of JW Docking & Son, another trading style of NGFS. The proprietor, Nick Gandon is personally involved with each and every cremation arrangement. Nick devised and first offered the "Simplicita Direct Cremation" arrangement in 1991.
